Tom Selleck in the Dark About 'Magnum' Movie

Last night, Tom Selleck's TV movie, Jesse Stone: Thin Ice was the most watch program on network TV, grabbing about 15 million viewers. That's not bad at all, coming in at about half of what American Idol puts up week after week. So clearly, people still love Tom Selleck.

As a guest last week on Live with Regis and Kelly, (only it was Anderson Cooper and Kelly), and Selleck was asked about the possible Magnum, P.I. movie that has been bandied about for years. Would Selleck play Magnum, would he do a cameo, and would he have any involvement at all is the natural progression of the line of questioning.

"They haven't called, they haven't written," he said. "I keep hearing they're developing one but I don't know whether I'm going to be in it... but they keep doing (fan) polls, and I keep winning them."

When Matthew McConaughey's name was officially taken off the list of possibilities, I posed what I thought was a legitimate question: Why not Tom Selleck? He's now 64, but as I wrote back in November, he looks better for his age than Harrison Ford looks for 66, and he could still make an Indiana Jones movie that was the second-highest bread winner last year.

I just think if the role is that iconic and Selleck wants to do it, why would go cast someone who doesn't measure up?

My vote is for Tom. No one wants to see a fake Magnum. I will predict if it is a well written movie with the same cast it would gross over 100 Million. He said Tom Clancy wanted to write it if Tom was in it but Paramount would not agree. that was from an earlier interview with Thomas.

There is only one Magnum and that is Tom Selleck. He's a great actor and, in my opinion, should be on a list for the top 10 most handsome men alive. I love his Jesse Stone movies. He's got character, humor and he still looks great.

Tom Selleck is the ONLY choice. I would love to have an update on him and his buddies on the show - and I have to say without a hint of remorse that MAGNUM PI was my favorite show when I was younger.

I have long been a fan of the show Magnum PI. I currently am in the process of buying the seasons on DVD. I admire Tom Selleck as an actor and as a person. It is a dream of mine to one day meet Tom Selleck, although my wife says it will never happen. Nothing against any other actors, there is only one person for each one of the characters from the original show and they are the original actors!!!
I hope if any projects of a Magnum nature come to pass that the original actors will reprise their roles.

Selleck all the way.

Don't take the series from where it left off. Wouldn't work. Show that things have changed since we last saw the characters. It would be awful to see the Rick, T.C., Higgins, and Magnum still doing the same things as before-Magnum still squeaking by on the estate, Rick still managing the club, etc. Not believable.

Also, it ruins great shows like this one when people make spoofs of them. Our luck, any movie will be comedy only, but fans of the series know that this show is multidimensional, as are the characters.

I hope Selleck, Hillerman, Manetti, and Mosely all find their way back. The woman who played Agatha is dead, as is Jeff McKay, the actor who played Mack. Hopefully something will happen sooner rather than later for this project.

I would love to see a Magnum movie. The last show of the series left it open for one. Why not show where Magnum, et al are now.

Since Magnum reuped into the Navy along with daughter Lillie could be brought back at Pearl Harbor maybe at Lillie's wedding,

BRING TOM SELLECK BACK !

I would not want to see it if Tom Selleck is not in it.

That would be totally stupid if 'Hollywood" tried to do it with ANY of the old characters changed. The actors who are gone---so be it. Their characters should be gone also. Kind of like real life.

I like Gary's idea, although it would be more likely to be Lilly's daughter's wedding.

Put Tom in the movie, or don't waste the film. Slap him in a Rosso Corsa F430 Spider, and let's get this thing done. Selleck rules!

Magnum without Tom Selleck?? I wouldn't bother to see it. Selleck IS Magnum. The ONLY Magnum.

Tom told Wolf Blitzer on March 28, that he's open to the idea, as long as the movie takes itself seriously. They should do it before John Hillerman gets any older. I always felt the movie should be called, "Magnum: Opus."

Tom Selleck is truly the only Magnum that anyone who was a true magnum fan would want to see as Magnum, ever!!! Is that enough magnum for you?? We were all in love with magnum and certainly with Tom Selleck!! I actually went all the way to hawaii to try to see him even for a second!! Good grief.. Noone can do Magnum like him.

There is only one Magnum, folks. Anyone other than Tom is not acceptable.

Tom Selleck is Magnum even more than Sean Connery is James Bond!

Here's a possible plot: Magnum after 20 years back in the Navy, returns to Pearl Harbor as the new CINCPAC. He reunites with his old friends who have gone on with their lives, but also must guide the Pacific command through Islamic terrorism in the Phillippines and Indonesia, Chinese expansionist designs in the Western Pacific and North Korea's nukes.

Alternate scenario: Admiral Magnum, after serving as Chief of Naval Operations, returns to Hawaii with his family to retire from the Navy. He reunites with his friends anc with them confronts old and new enemies.

Remember how they had to cast batman after batman because they couldn't find one that stuck?
The same thing will happen if you don't cast Tom selleck as magnum. No one else will ever be believable in that role. Tom was so good at it he became Magnum. You can't have one without the other.

I have all 8 seasons of Magnum, great memories growing up, but also one of the best TV series. The original cast should all be brought back, no doubt. I'm sure they could make a 2 hr movie with the entire cast back. If they make it a parody like Starsky and Hutch, it will be a failure.

We all want to see Tom back in the seat of the Ferrari. Bring out the whole cast. This movie would be so fun to watch. I'm getting excited just thinking about it.

Mr. Bellesario created magnum pi, wrote, and directed many stories in the 8 year series. Get him to revive a new continued current story. Then with original stars and creator it would be GREAT!

Tom Selleck is the only choice for Magnum, and he still looks great! Loved him on Las Vegas and love his Jesse Stone movies (have them all on DVD!), which always beat every other show in ratings when they air!

BTW, everyone should watch the "If Life Gives You Lemons" episode of Las Vegas. It was a Magnum reunion with Manetti and Mosely guest-starring. They looked great!

Tom woudl need to be in the movie! They could have Matthew Mc in it as his son or sidekick or something.
