Observe Five New 'Observe and Report' Clips

Though it is intended to draw a completely different audience, it is nevertheless very difficult to discuss Observe and Report without at least mentioning Paul Blart: Mall Cop. The similarities are pretty striking, on the surface: Heavyset guy who lives with his mom and patrols a shopping mall everyday feels the unmistakable call of action when a woman he loves from afar finds herself in the center of a tumultuous situation that occurs on his watch.

Prior to Blart, when was the last time we saw a movie like that? I bring all of this up only because I think in most cases it's a tougher sell when you're the second movie - Wyatt Earp came after Tombstone, Ed TV followed The Truman Show, and Infamous came after Capote. Armageddon is an excpetion to that rule, but it usually works that way.

Observe and Report is a much darker film, by all accounts, and it does have Seth Rogen and Anna Faris, so there might be enough differentiation among the target audience, but it probably won't have the mainstream appeal that Blart managed to find.

Here's a handful of new clips for Observe and Report, culled from the files of Trailer Addict. As you can see, those Blart similarities do not extend to the tone in both films.

Observe and Report opens on April 10th.
