Sunday, March 22, 2009 at 2:53AM Trailer - The Horror Remake 'Sorority Row'
On the whole, I'm not against remakes. Anyone who reads this site with any regularity knows that
already. Why? Because they're still performing Shakespeare and Lysistrata somewhere in the world. One of the great
things about all literature is that it continues to live after its author(s) complete it. There's new meaning or relevance to
be found every now and then, so why not explore it?

How does that relay to horror movies, which most people don't find particularly meaningful in the first place? Well, I dunno;
ghost stories have also been around for centuries and they've been revised to fit new audiences. What's the difference? Do
you have a negative opinion if you didn't like the first version? OK. Well, then, don't see the new one.
There are exceptions to the remake rule, movies that shook the foundation so much that they're still informative on their
own, so remaking them seems rather unneccesary. We don't need another Gone with the Wind or Casablanca or
Star Wars or Dr. Strangelove. In horror, that list would be The Exorcist and should have still been
Psycho. But pretty much everything else is fair game, and you just hope they get it right.
Now, if you're talking House on Sorority Row, which has been modified to Sorority Row, I'm not sure any of that
matters. The original was just part of a parade of lower level horror flicks and the remake doesn't seem terribly inspired,
either. I will say that the 2009 crop of remakes - My Bloody Valentine, Friday the 13th, and Last House on
the Left - are all better than they need to be. That's a really low bar for Sorority Row, but I still have my
doubts.
