Monday, March 23, 2009 at 4:20PM Anne Hathaway to Play Judy Garland on Stage and Screen
The Weinstein Company has snared Anne Hathaway to play Judy Garland in a new bio-pic and stageplay based on
the triple threat's troubled life. The movie is tentatively titled Get Happy: The Life of Judy Garland, and
we know how Hollywood loves stars playing stars.

Curiously, I'm not sure the role will be that much different than Hathaway's Oscar-nominated turn in Rachel
Getting Married, only with singing and dancing. I'm not sure how good a dancer The Princess of Genovia is, but
she can sing, as demonstrated recently on Saturday Night Live.
There's no word on when we can see the film, who's directing, or whether Garland's daughters Lorna Luft and Liza
Minnelli will have any input. What we know for sure is this: Booze, drugs, and lots of it.
Hathaway, for her part, has always been a reliable actress, and she is certainly about due for a big, splashy,
begging-for-Oscar showcase if anybody is. Of course, these projects can be undone by their own vainglorious
attempts for Academy favor (Beyond the Sea, El Cantante), so while it's not a guarantee or anything, you
have to remain open to the possibility.
