'Twilight' Sells Three Million DVDs in 24 Hours
Sunday, March 22, 2009 at 6:18PM
Though not terribly surprising, the initial DVD sales figures for Twilight are very,
very strong. The chaste teenage vampire movie went on sale Saturday morning at midnight and in the first 24 hours
sold over three million units.

Perhaps that doesn't strike you as that big a deal. But a really good week for a new CD is about ten percent of
that total, and the all-time record is 2.2 million CDs internationally...in seven days. The three million copies
puts Twilight in elite company, joining The Dark Knight, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, Harry
Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and Transformers in the top five best first days over the past two
years.
Summit Entertainment pulled out all the stops, setting up special DVD release events with the cast and director
Catherine Hardwicke across the country to help push even more units than Twilight was already going to sell.
“With such a successful first day sales, it is apparent that our fans remain passionate about the Twilight
Saga and want to own a piece of the Edward and Bella story they have come to love," said Summit Home
Entertainment President Steve Nickerson in a statement.
"We look forward to the continued success for both the home entertainment and retail sales of this property as a whole.”
It's been a great weekend for the new studio, with Knowing topping the theatrical box office charts, as well.
