Action-Packed New 'Star Trek' Commercial

One thing you can say for this new Star Trek, just based on the trailers and this new television commercial: There's going to be a lot more action. I think that's both by design (it is J.J. Abrams, after all), and it's also a luxury of having much younger actors to work with. You're not going to get too much physicial dominance out of, say, DeForest Kelley or Patrick Stewart.

That could prove to be exactly what this franchise needs, regardless of how good the movie is. Don't forget, the first Trek movie was pretty bad, and I wonder if we'd be where we are now if not for the very good sequel, The Wrath of Khan. But going young, getting people introduced or re-introduced to those classic, well- developed characters, could buy Trek another decade of prominence.

I think there are couple flashes of new stuff in this latest ad, but it definitely looks like an effects fest, which is something else I think Star Trek needs more of.
