Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at 11:55AM Sam Raimi Insists Bruce Campbell Will Be In 'Evil Dead 4'
Evil Dead got lucky. Seriously, no matter how great the idea is or no matter who's
involved behind the camera or in front of the camera, making a trilogy with three good films is extremely
difficult. The Godfather couldn't do it, and neither could Star Wars. Lord of the Rings mostly
passes the test, but even then, there's a solid hour between the second and third film we just don't need. I think
the Bourne trilogy is the best ever, for the simple fact that the movies got better as the series progressed.

So for Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell to make a trilogy that works as well as it does is quite an accomplishment.
After all, with loads of more resources, Raimi couldn't make three good Spider-Man movies. And it's
understandable that fans would want to keep the ride going, although Campbell has voiced in he past concerns about
seeing Ash Williams again, that if there is an Evil Dead 4, maybe it's time to do something new with it.
Raimi doesn't buy that and told MTV last that Campbell will star in Evil Dead 4 if it happens. “He can dream
all he wants. He’s trying to get out of getting back in shape,” Raimi joked. “I’m going to kick his butt in shape.
I’m gonna say ‘get back in the chainsaw!’”
We can't say for sure this movie will ever see the light of day. Last summer, Raimi announced at Comic Con that he
and his brother Ivan were literally leaving the venue to go write script ideas, and that never happened. I suspect
he's partially playing a waiting game, building interest for the film over another year or so before announcing it
will happen. He sure does sound enthusiastic about the possibility, though.

“Every time I say I would like to [revisit the films], people say, ‘where the hell is it!?!’ But I’m just glad people are still interested. But yes, I would really like to do [another Evil Dead film]. I’ve just got a commitment to make Spider-Man 4 right now though.”Ugh...Spidey 4. Thanks for reminding me. Of the possible Sam Raimi quatros, that one is not very high on my list. I imagine we'll get a better gauge on where Raimi's bloodlust is at this point in his career after Drag Me to Hell shows up at the end of May, and maybe the reaction to that film will be enough to push him (and Bruce Campbell) into a full-on commitment.
