Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at 9:32PM Emily Blunt Talks About Losing Out on 'Iron Man 2'
What a rocky road for Iron Man 2, and it really didn't need to be. After the almost
startling success of the first film last summer, the only thing set in stone was that Robert Downey, Jr. would be
back under the suit. But what began with Marvel not immediately locking up Jon Favreau took a circuitous route to
new co-stars Don Cheadle, Mickey Rourke, Sam Rockwell, and Scarlett Johansson.

But Johansson wasn't Option A. Marvel offered the role to Emily Blunt, who is a better fit for a few reasons. But
Blunt had to turn down the part after Fox pulled a trump card from her Devil Wears Prada breakout, locking
the actress up for a new version of Gulliver's Travels, which shoots around the same time as Iron Man
2.
And now, Blunt is speaking out for the first time about losing the very good part in a very big movie. She tells
MTV, “It was one of things that was conflicting. So it’s a shame the two of them couldn’t work together."
"It just got complicated, so I think I had to pull out for my own sanity more than anything.”
But if she had agreed to the part, she's seen that Iron Man 2 script, right? Yep, but she's not talking.
“See, that’s the other thing, I can’t give anything away on that front,” she said. “I’m not going to say! I’m not
going to say! I’m going to get someone in trouble. Look at me, I’m such a goody-two-shoes!”
Goody-two-shoes or not, I'd like to see Blunt try an action movie, and it's a shame she's out of the mix here. Even
though my pick was Olga Kurylenko - who has shown she can do action and she's Russian, just like the character - I think Scarlett is a desperate choice, and I'm fairly certain she'll be terrible.

Better Scarlett than boring, unbearably smug Goop Paltrow (who was a wet blanket in the first movie); that being said, Emily got hosed beyond belief and Fox can go screw...
