Thursday, March 26, 2009 at 2:40AM 'Flight of the Conchords': The Movie?
Over the past few years, Flight of the Conchords has built quite a
following for itself thanks to its HBO run. So what's next? Maybe a movie, surprise, surprise.

Rhys Darby, who plays Murray on the show, says that there have already been discussions about
bringing the show (or at least the characters) to the big screen. Personally, I think most of
the HBO series are cut out for film adaptations, because of their looser restrictions on
content and the reputation of the network's original programming as being somehow better than
network TV.
Darby says it's not a sure thing, but the subject has definitely come up:

"When you make a film it's got to be, you've got to have a really great story. Whether you go and do a back story, or whether you take it off on a different tangent you have to put a lot of thought into it. So I would definitely love to do it, but we will have to wait and see."Not having a story didn't stop Eagle vs. Shark, but whatever. He is right, however, when you talk about bringing something established to a different medium. There has to be some reason to do it, which is my only major gripe with The Simpsons Movie - you paid to see what you can essentially get for free 24 weeks a year. There are a lot of directions Conchords could go, though, and that's obvious from just about any episode. So I think I like the idea.
