Thursday, March 26, 2009 at 12:44AM Kidman Joins Woody Allen's Ginormous Ensemble
Well, I guess this means Woody Allen's next film is going to blow. Recent
script albatross Nicole Kidman has signed on to join the cast of Allen's unnamed project. As
always, we have no idea what Woody's cooking up. I'm not sure we even know if it's a comedy or
a drama.

What we do know is Allen probably has his best ensemble in 20 years or more: Kidman, her best
mate Naomi Watts, Josh Brolin, Anthony Hopkins, Antonio Banderas, and Freida Pinto. We know it's set in London. And we know
that Spain's Mediapro is floating the cash, and they financed Vicky Cristina Barcelona.
I was actually joking about Kidman ruining every project she does; it just seems that way. In
truth, I admire her risk-taking, going all the way back to To Die For. She has one of
the more diverse filmographies of any Best Actress winner over the last decade, but since she
won the Oscar, she has rarely been good and the movies have almost all been bombs.
Conversely, Woody is riding high. He has a fairly good string of recent successes, and Vicky Cristina was his biggest hit since Hannah and Her Sisters. His next film, the Larry David comedy, Whatever Works will arrive in June.
