Lohan's 'Labor Pains' Bounced to Cable, DVD
Friday, March 27, 2009 at 8:07AM
A few days ago, we ran a story about Lindsay Lohan desperately trying to
gain respectability as an actress. Tough to do when her behavior remains as erratic as it is,
but she says she's talking to Sean Penn and wants to do something with Seth Rogen and on and on
and on.

I said at the time that if she wants to work so badly, prove it. She's nobody's idea of a great
actress, although she showed flickers in Freaky Friday and Mean Girls. But that
was a long time ago. Nobody is going to hitch their wagon to Lohan version 2.0. What she needs
to do is build a reputation for doing solid supporting work and not being a terrible nuisance,
two things she has yet to prove.
To make matters worse for LiLo, the actress' most recent flick, the phony pregnancy comedy
Labor Pains, will probably not make it to a theater near you. That's right: She's
unconscioulsy emulating the Jessica Simpson strategy. Instead of the megaplexes, Labor
Pains will hit cable for a little bit this summer and then wind up on DVD.
Ouch.
But in case you're thinking that HBO or Showtime gobbled this up, Lohan should be so lucky. The
rights have been sold to ABC Family to run in July, typically one of the worst months for TV
viewing all year. The production company said the film might be shown in ten theaters for a
limited time, which is less a theatrical run and more a contractual obligation.
There are two ways Lohan can handle the news: The way she's handled everything else in the past
five years, or as a professional, one who has learned to roll with the punches and who realizes
that as hard as it is to make it to the top, it's that much harder to stay there. And then
maybe she'll look around Hollywood and notice that even among the very successful actors, they
had some lean years. So she can either dig herself a deeper hole or steadily work her way out
of it.
