Ron Howard appears to be ready to juggle mainstream popcorn flicks and more weighty stuff. Spacing out the Dan Brown movies with
Frost/Nixon gave him another Oscar nomination, and now Howard will apparently follow up Angels & Demons with the graphic novel adaptation,
The Strange Adventures of HP Lovecraft.

Not surprisingly, it'll be a Universal/Imagine project, and the graphic novel - due out in April - is biographical fiction about the legendary horror writer.
His life will be woven through an imaginative set of cicumstances after a book puts a curse on him and the evil he has written comes to life. A bit like
Inkheart, I guess. But that should be fine; nobody saw Inkheart.
I love that Universal was apparently more amenable to the project because of its recent interest in the horror titles in its archive. A reinvigorated Wolf Man is slated for a fall release, and this could mean that Universal wants to open up some more of its older classics.
As for Howard, he hasn't done anything close to this since Willow, so it's certainly an interesting choice. I'm not sure he'd be my first choice, but he doesn't make too many mistakes when it comes to picking directorial projects.
