McConaughey is 'The Lincoln Lawyer'

Matthew McConaughey has signed on to play a low-rent criminal defense attorney in
the legal thrilla
The Lincoln Lawyer, a movie based on a 2005 novel by Michael Connelly. And
I'm guessing that unless that judge relaxes his dress code to not necessarily include shirts, McConaughey will
spend at least half the movie in contempt of court.

Actually, if memory serves, the shirtless one was actually pretty good as an attorney in A Time to Kill, his
breakthrough role. He had a lot of help in that one, of course. In The Lincoln Lawyer, McConaughey will play
attorney Mickey Haller, who represents a wealthy client who is connected to a previous murder case Haller worked.
The title refers to the fact that Haller works out of the back of his Lincoln Town Car.
Connelly is perhaps best known for his books featuring detective Harry Bosch, and in fact, in 2008, he paired Bosch
and Haller for the book The Brass Verdict.
McConaughey, of course, could use a hit. His last big success was Failure to Launch, but his only
blockbuster this decade was How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. On top of commercial failures, a leading man
career that once had some promise has succumbed to a string of lazy romantic comedies.
We don't have budget information on The Lincoln Lawyer (although the deal to acquire the book cost a million
bucks, according to
Variety), but just the darker tone of the material, regardless of the
financials, is a step in the right direction for McConaughey.
