'Sherlock Holmes' Poster Premieres at ShoWest

At ShoWest in Vegas, Latino Review caught a glimpse of the first poster for Sherlock Holmes, and it's, among other things, pretty damn cool.

Now, if you read The Big Picture from time to time, you probably know I'm not really into this Sherlock business, so why do I like the poster? Well, the first reason is because trailers and posters aren't reflective of the actual movie. That's why I can say without reservation that the poster for Prom Night is bad-ass.

The other reason I like this poster is because of its simplicity: It's Robert Downey, Jr. emerging from the darkness. That's it. I'm sure a better version of this poster will show up either during ShoWest or right after, but in the meantime, take a look.

I hope the studio keeps some version of this one in the rotation for Sherlock Holmes. In fact, variations on this would be a really good character poster series, a route Warner Bros. loves going down for its bigger releases in recent years.

I am a big fan of the original Sherlock Homes films starring Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce; I even collect the vintage movie posters for these films. I am really looking forward to seeing this, as I think Downey is a great actor, I loved Chaplin. Lets hope the studio didn't butcher this...
