Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at 8:25AM Monty Python Reunites for TV Documentary
And now for something completely different...

John Cleese, Eric Idle, Michael Palin, Terry Gilliam, and Terry Jones will reunite for an upcoming TV documentary called Monty Python: Almost the Truth (The Lawyer's Cut). It will air on IFC in October as part of the cable channel's Python Week and is scheduled to be a six-episode affair.
Outside of sporadic participation on DVD releases, this will be one of the few times the members of the legendary comedy ensemble will appear together since the passing of Graham Chapman in 1989. The reason they're all appearing (outside of the money the eventual DVD will earn, of course) is because the documentary provides the Pythons with a final word.
"This is the documentary I always hoped would be made - something so complete and so faithful to the truth that I don't need to watch it," Jones said. In addition to the original members, famous fans of Monty Python will share their remembrances, including Hugh Hefner, Dan Aykroyd, Tim Roth, and Eddie Izzard.
Clearly the most influential group of comedians ever, Python made viable the sort of irreverent televised comedy of Saturday Night Live, SCTV, and...well, everything else that falls into that category. Python's films are also noteworthy, particularly The Holy Grail, which needs no further explanation.
Something else that shouldn't be overlooked is that 2009 is the 40th anniversary of Monty Python's Flying Circus, which aired for five seasons on the BBC. Oh, and if your girlfriend doesn't get it, break up with her now. It'll save you money and heartache in the long run.
