First Look at Angelina Jolie in 'Salt'

After an awful lot of back and forth, the spy thrilla Salt is finally about to begin production. You remember Salt from when it was called Edwin Salt and was going to star Tom Cruise, who may or may not have been replaced by Angelina Jolie because his public image took a hit.

USA Today has the first look at Angelina as Evelyn Salt, although I think they were toying with Erika Salt at one point. Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura (Transformers) tells the nation's newspaper he had no idea how complex it would be.

"I had no idea how complex it would be." See?

"We had to rethink the whole notion of how a man vs. a woman operates in the business world, in personal relationship and in friendships," di Bonaventura explained.

Producers have their own pie-in-the-sky take on everything. They kind of have to. So when the obvious comparisons to Jason Bourne come up, Lorenzo has it all figured out. "The question of Jason Bourne is 'Who am I?'" he says. "The question of Salt is, 'We know everything about her, but do we?' (Her pursuers) have a ton of information to act on, but that's where they begin to question what is real and what isn't."

Of course, that's true of any fictional movie character; we only know what we're told and shown, and those circumstances can change on the whim of even the worst screenwriter.

Here's Angelina...in two different wigs. It's all very exciting.

I think this one has loads of potential. Philip Noyce is directing it, the supporting cast includes Liev Schreiber and Chiwetel Ejiofor, and I've taken grief for this in the past, but Jolie is the perfect female action star. In fact, she's the only female action star. This will sell a bunch of tickets when it opens next year.
