Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at 10:16PM 'Let the Right One In' Remake Alters Its Name
If you haven't seen Let the Right One In, you are, unfortunately,
not alone. It's one of the best damn vampire movies I've ever seen, and we had it placed right smack dab in the
middle of our list of 2008's finest films. It's that good.

But it never saw much of a release in the U.S., and unless you live in a major metro, odds are you were never even
afforded the opportunity to check it out. For some reason, the producers didn't release the film in its native
Sweden in time for consideration in the Foreign Language category at the Oscars. Certainly, I think it would have
received a nomination, which couldn't have hurt its profile around the world.
It'll be out on DVD next Tuesday, and you should definitely give it a look if you're looking for a smart,
disturbing new wrinkle in the universe of vampires. If it's the language barrier that's keeping you away, well,
shame on you. But you should also know (if you don't already) that there's an American remake on the way next year.
This isn't a new thing, of course. The Magnificent Seven is a remake of The Seven Samurai, and that
worked out OK. But just so you know it when you see it, Bloody Disgusting reports that Overture
Films is changing the name to the much more immediate Let Me In. Well, first of all, it's
unnecessary. Secondly, it takes a great deal of mystery out of the title, don't you think?
Cloverfield's Matt Reeves is on board to direct, and you can look for it in
theaters on January 15th. But check out the DVD first.

This might have to do with copyright issues. "Let me in" was the title of the American version of the book. (Since the movie came out, it has been retitled "Let the Right One In")
For those who have seen the movie I recommend the book as well.
See, that's news you can use. Thanks, Skippy.
But, but: the title was inspired by the Morrisey song "Let the right one slip in"!
U can always download it from torrent sites...:)
But Dan, why should all of their hard work go to you for free? Would you like them to just come to your place of business and steal what you do for a living?
Another reason is that the makers might want to move away from the "remake" stigma, and so they changed the name.
They are using the book as the source instead of the movie, so we might end up with a few differences between the two.
Book titles aside, the title "Let The Right One In" gives away a bit of the mystery on its own by telling you there's a right and wrong one to choose from. However, "Let Me In" gives you this side of nothing and in today's world where multiple trailers and featurettes spill many a films secrets before ever hitting theaters. If anything less detail about movies compared to the over saturation that's commonplace might work out for the better.
"Let the Right One In" is a great title for this story because it works on different levels. It serves as a warning to humans regarding vampires, vampires regarding humans, and humans regarding other humans. The title is a lesson about who we should allow to get close to us, physically and/or emotionally.
"Let Me In" sounds really lame in comparison, regardless of whether it was the only true author's favorite intended title in his original native language, or whatever.
