Monday, March 9, 2009 at 12:23AM Michelle Williams to Receive Heath Ledger's Oscar
The Los Angeles Times reports that Heath Ledger's Academy Award for The Dark Knight will spend the next 15 years or so under the watchful eye of...Michelle Williams. Yes, as it turns out, AMPAS has tight restrictions about where the posthumous awards go.

If you saw the Academy Awards, you no doubt remember the very poignant speeches delivered by Ledger's family, who apparently took the award back home to Perth despite having agreed before the Oscars to let it stay with Williams, Ledger's former fiancee, and mother of his daughter Matilda, who officially assumes ownership of the Best Supporting Actor award when she turns 18.It's kind of a strange deal because Williams and Ledger split a few months before Heath's death, but where Matlida goes, so goes Oscar.
Academy mouthpiece Leslie Unger told The Times, "We expect a representative of the Ledger estate to bring the statuette in tomorrow (or soon thereafter) so that the engraved plate can be affixed."
Soon after that," she added, "we expect the statuette (with engraved plate) to be delivered to Michelle Williams."

Let's be honest... to a Joe Schmoe like me... it is just a tiny trophy for a group of people who own most of the little green papers that I really want. Who cares where the statue rests... put it in the coffin for all I care.
