Friday, April 10, 2009 at 11:33AM Robert Downey, Jr. Wants 'Sherlock' Sequel
We're fairly certain Warner Bros. wants a sequel to this year's Sherlock Holmes. There
are a few reasons for that. For one thing, the movie is based on a serialized character; Holmes is one of the most
famous continuing characters in literature. For another, it's an expensive movie with big stars that's coming out
on Christmas. There are expectations.

Because of the economy and because it's just easier for studios to make money on established brands, the idea of a
Sherlock Holmes sequel should come as no surprise. And star Robert Downey, Jr. sounds all about more movies in the
series.
“I feel like there’s going to be a Sherlock Holmes 2,” Downey told MTV, adding that he'd like to keep those
darker attributes about the world's most famous detective to a minimum. In particular, Downey says we won't see a
lot of Holmes' narcotics habits.
“I actually petitioned the court and said, ‘This is a PG-13 movie. Let’s just refer to these peripherally. So at
one point, Watson says, ‘What are you doing, that’s for eye surgery!’”
I wonder if, like the promise of Tony Stark in the Iron Man franchise, we'll explore those aspects of Holmes
if the series continues. I would hope so.
