Second 'Ugly Truth' Trailer with Heigl and Butler

Operating under the premise that Katherine Heigl is hopeless when it comes to getting men is probably not the strongest start for a movie. But The Ugly Truth might counterbalance that with - what's this? - an R rating.

Yes, the big romantic comedy for Columbia Pictures this summer is actually intended for adults, so I guess since it's about Gerard Butler teaching Heigl the tricks to score a man, the movie will have plenty of raunchy talk. How can they get away with an R in a heavily PG-13 arena? Simple: Heigl sells tickets, believe it or not.

Knocked Up was R (although that was not her triumph), but 27 Dresses proved she could open a romantic comedy, and she was actually better in that role than in Knocked Up. She's doing a bit of the Kate Hudson thing, but the movies are easily a notch or two above Hudson's collected works.

Throw in King Leonidas, and it's going to be a date movie with legs all the way through Labor Day. Call it a hunch.

The Ugly Truth opens on July 24th.

Sorry to disagree with you Colin, but I thought that Heigl was lovable and hilarious in "Knocked Up", while I despised her whiny, meek, "poor me" character in "27 Dresses". Unfortunately, this movie looks more like the latter than the former in terms of quality. Sometimes predictable is good, but the characters seem really unlikable here, so I can't really get behind that.

But what the hell, this movie wasn't made for me, right?

She's admitted to not being comfortable on the Knocked Up set, and I think it showed. The material wasn't as good in 27 Dresses but, come on, this is Katherine Heigl we're talking about. The more mainstream romcom stuff just suits her better.
