Writers Say There Are "Super Secret" Plans for 'Venom'
Thursday, April 9, 2009 at 8:39PM
There have been strong hints since the summer of 2007 that Spider-Man
3 villain Venom would get his own spin-off, and while writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese
won't say much about it, they do acknoledge that it's on the way eventually.

The pair told Sci-Fi Wire that they can't talk about the project per se, because it's "super
secret," although not so secret that they couldn't say they don't know anything about it.
Right now, the project is scheduled for 2012, so Reese and Wernick certainly have time to map
it out. They admit they're not starting from scratch, but they don't sound incredibly confident
that they know where the story is going, either.
"We read [Venom] growing up, but we were not experts," Reese said. "We certainly know the
mythology of Venom, but went back and learned more when it became clear that we could actually
get this job."
Adds Reese, who cops to being "terrified" by the prospect of getting Venom wrong, "It's
source material that everybody knows and everybody's familiar with and everybody loves. There's
a burden on you to meet the expectations of people. A lot of people are curious about Venom."
No matter what they do, I don't think it could be any worse than the egg Sam Raimi laid. So
petrified or not, there's a bright side, I guess.
