Friday, April 10, 2009 at 1:59PM 'Year One' Edits Its Way to a PG-13 Rating
Earlier this week, the Judd Apatow/Harold Ramis comedy Year One was slapped with a R rating, and the thought was that Sony would try again to get that down to a PG-13, because the producers and the studio had already appealed the ruling once before.

Apparently, it didn't take much to change the MPAA's mind. Some cuts were made to the film - presumably very specific scenes or dialogue - and the film will now roll into theaters with a much more lucrative PG-13 classification. If it had been an overall tone or an overabundance of f-bombs, there probably would have been no way to reverse field so quickly.
For the record, the MPAA did say the original rating was for "some sexual content and language," and now that's it's PG-13, you should be on the lookout for "crude and sexual content throughout, brief strong language and comic violence."
Hey, it sounds like they've added comic violence and crude content! How'd they get away with it? Year One opens on June 19th and stars Michael Cera and Jack Black as hunter-gathers cast out of their village, and a road trip/buddy picture breaks out.
Trivia time: The first PG-13 movie released in wide distribution was Red Dawn, meaning PG-13 turns 25 on August 10th.
