Even 'Faster,' Even More 'Furious'

I wasn't the only one who scoffed at the notion of a fifth Fast & Furious movie before the most recent entry in the series made it to theaters. But nobody's laughing now. After posting the strongest opening weekend of the year and looking like a possible $175 million movie before the international receipts are counted, and suddenly, this is a billion dollar franchise after four movies.

And over the past week, the talk of a possible fifth movie has turned into talk of definite fifth movie. “This was supposed to be it. There wasn’t supposed to be the open-ended closing like there was,” Paul Walker said during a radio interview. “But without question, with the way things opened up, Vin and I will be coming back, we’re making a fifth one, and we’re going to Brazil, that’s it.”

Reading that reminds me of another proposed drive-real-fast sequel set around Rio: Where the hell is The Brazilian Job, anyway?

But Walker kind of figured there would be a strong show of support after annoying fans of the series by turning down he third film, especially with the selling point of the original cast coming back for Fast & Furious.

“When they started talking about making the fourth one, I was like, man, I don’t really have a choice now, because if I don’t do it I know I’m gonna be pissing people off, because this is the opportunity to come back and make the first true sequel.”

So if this is the first "true" sequel, I wonder how many more there will be. Can part five (or three, if you're using Paul Walker's math) be just as big as this year's model?
