'Star Trek' Tickets Already On Sale
Friday, April 17, 2009 at 2:34PM
Today, several theater chains around the country began selling tickets for the May 7th showings of J.J. Abrams' reboot of Star Trek. The film is the second major summer blockbuster this year, and to accommodate the rush, Paramount moved the official opening from Friday the 8th back to 7pm one night earlier.

The studio says that AMC Theatres, National Amusements, Pacific/Arclight, and Regal Entertainment are among the chains already offering the chance to buy tickets early, and more exhibitors will follow suit in the next week.
I can't get a gauge on the film's box office potential. Several other critics mentioned it as a possible summer box office champ in a Movieblips article I contributed to, but I just think May is too crowded for the movie in the middle of the pack to get that far ahead of the others. Then again, if it's the best movie in the first two months of summer, it could certainly be a contender.
