Terrific Clip from the Ani-pocalypse Flick, '9'
Sunday, April 19, 2009 at 1:31PM
A few years from now, we'll probably look back at 2009 as a turning point in animation. In
fact, we may not even wait a few years. Between the big studio stuff like Up and Monsters vs. Aliens,
the integration of 3-D, and the rise of smaller studios in the animated arena, it's going to significantly change
the game.

While Lionsgate is enterting the 3-D fray with The Battle for Terra, the real up-and-comer is definitely
Focus Features, which has already received great reviews and very solid box office for Coraline and is
bringing us the post-apocalyptic 9 later this year.
Director Shane
Acker is expanding his terrific 2005 short film of the same name into a feature,
with the voices of Elijah Wood, Jennifer Connelly, John C.
Reilly, Crispin Glover, Christopher Plummer, and Martin
Landau. Here's a two-minute clip from the film, which is sure to be unlike any
other animated feature this year:

Look for 9 in theaters this September. And while we can't be sure of any of this occuring this year, doesn't
it look more and more likely that the Best Animated Oscar category will be a little less of a runaway from now on?

holy fuck. And with Crispen Glover to boot.
I still think that the Best Animated Feature Category will be filled with kiddie fair like Up and Monsters v. Aliens. That award was invented to rope kids into a tradition of watching the ceremony. It's the McDonald's happy meal of the Academy Awards, and I see stronger artistic and darker fair like 9and Coralinegetting shafted, much like Waltz With Bashir did earlier this year.
Hey Will, don't forget that Spirited Away snuck in and took home the bacon in 2003, so there IS hope!
The National Board of Psychiatry is begging you; PLEASE take your children to see this one on opening day!
A little spooky but awesome
