Why Isn't 'Jonas Brothers' on IMDB's Bottom 100 List?
Sunday, April 19, 2009 at 9:00PM
I would never claim to understand too many math concepts, but I'm stumped by IMDB's Bottom
100 films of all time. The list, as you probably know, is a ranking of the worst
movies ever made as voted by IMDB's millions of registered users. And judging by the votes for Jonas Brothers: The
3D Concert Experience, it should be the number one film on the list. But you
won't find it anywhere.

Obviously, the more votes the movie has, more weight should be given to the average rating. I don't know the
specifics of how IMDB puts those things together, but if the average rating for the movie is a 1.3 and fewer than ten films on the list have more votes,
then shouldn't Jonas Brothers safely reside with the other movies rated at 1.3?
You'd think so, but there are no movies with a rating that low. Currently, the worst film ever is Daniel - Der Zauberer, with a 1.4 rating and
fewer than half the votes of the Jonas Brothers movie. Take a look:

OK, there it is: Over 12,000 votes and an accumulated rating of 1.3 out of 10. Now here's the current list of the Bottom 100:
Uh...IMDB? Are you protecting Disney here? Can there be a logical reason for this mistake? It can't be that votes
for these lists only count after a certain amount of time; remember, The Dark Knight was the greatest movie
ever ever ever for about three weeks when it was released last summer.
So what gives?

It is a bit strange.. I had some time and did the math according to IMDB's top 250 formula, (I used 650 and not 1300, and calculated the avg. score on the bottom 100) and the Jonas Bros. film got a rating of 1.32.
Unless IMDB use a different formula for this table, there is indeed something very wrong here.
I think they only average some regular voters votes and not all of the votes.
Also can the film really be that bad, especially if it's a concert film.
IMDb don't have a history of protecting studios, so it's unlikely there is a grand conspiracy.
I think the simplest explanation is that 'Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience' is categorised as a 'music documentary' and as such not included in the list of bottom 100 'movies'.
But well spotted!
Further digging reveals:
"Please be aware that list only includes theatrical features: shorts, TV movies, miniseries and documentaries are not included in the Top 250 chart."
No doubt this applies to the bottom 100.
Where did you dig that up, Michael? Not that I doubt you, but I don't see that on the page for the top 250. Also, the regular voters thing makes sense, and they do mention that on both lists.
Incidentally, I haven't seen Jonas Brothers, but I would highly doubt it's the worst movie ever made. I can't even see how that's possible; I watched Disaster Movie.
I don't think much of IMDb voters in general, but it is still the best gauge of public opinion we have.
The quote is located here:
"The user votes average on film X is 9.4, so it should appear in your top 250 films listing, yet it doesn't. Why?"

It looks like we need something like this for the bottom 100:

"Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience" is #1 on the Bottom Rated "Documentary" Titles -

The top of the page is "Top Rated Documentary Titles". Scroll down the page for the "Bottom Rated Documentary Titles".
I remember it being #1 on the bottom 100 a while back. I guess they removed it now.

Personally I wouldn't put it past disney to try and strong arm imdb into keeping one of their movies off the bottom 100 list. I'm not saying that's what happened but that would tend to make since I also saw it as the number one movie on the list before it was taken down for "some reason".
That piece of crap was a documentary? wow...
anyways, anonymous had a hand in this low score, but it was for the better as all the fangirls would have come in and given it 10s regardless of whether or not it was good or even if they had seen it. whatever its score was with or without anonymous' help, it wouldn't be accurate. 1.3 seems appropriate though.
