Angelina Jolie appears to be on the verge of another franchise, negotiating with Fox 2000 to
bring author Patricia Cornwell's Dr. Kay Scarpetta to the screen.

Scarpetta is a medical examiner in over a dozen Cornwell novels, and it's one profession Jolie's celebrated dark
side should have a magnetic attraction to. Variety indicates that once Jolie was presented
the possibility to star in the films, months of negotiations took place behind the scenes, with Jolie finally
sitting down with Cornwell and producers of the film to discuss the creative direction of the series.
Cornwell has written a few other books beyond the Scarpetta series, including a wild stab at solving the actual
Jack the Ripper case. It was a good read, but pretty absurd.
This could be a third burgeoning franchise for Jolie; her female spy-on-the-run flick, Salt, is filming now, and certainly has potential along those lines, and it's believed she wants to return in Wanted 2...somehow.
