Raimi to Meet with Dunst About 'Spider-Man 4'

The only piece of the Spider-Man puzzle not absolutely confirmed for the fourth movie
is Kirsten Dunst. We know Tobey Maguire is back and Sam Raimi will direct. A writer has even been hired (David
Lindsay-Abaire). But for whatever reason, Dunst hasn't put pen to paper for Columbia. Money? Boredom? I have no
idea.

But Sam Raimi will try to talk Dunst into returning for Spider-Man 4, which has to be determined one way or
the other before the project moves forward, if just from the standpoint of the script. "I'm hoping that she is
going to come aboard, and I've got a meeting coming up with her," Raimi told Sci Fi Wire.
"I think she would like to. But I don't want to speak on behalf of her."
If you're going to make changes in a long-running franchise, in between episodes three and four makes a lot of sense. People think in terms of trilogies, and you could have the Mary Jane trilogy and the non-Mary Jane trilogy, but if Dunst only signs up for one more movie and they have to fill the leading lady role for the fifth movie, what's the point?
Of course, you could also make a case that Raimi and Maguire should have bolted rather than sticking around for another slate of Spidey movies. Does this trio seem like they want to do six of these or more?
Raimi was also asked about how movies like The Dark Knight could influence the mood of future films in his series. "Whatever it is, I think will be a direct result of the best style to bring about our writer's screenplay. And as
soon as I read that, I will know what that is," he explained.
"Edgy could be a direction, but I don't think it will be applied without really understanding the character's journey from the inside out first and then figuring out the best way to bring that about."
Isn't the movie business great: We already know when this movie will be out (May 2011), but the guy responsible for making it happen has no roadmap for how to get it there. Nothing like starting with the story, right?
