Saturday, April 25, 2009 at 12:55PM '30 Days of Night' Sequel Still Headed to DVD
Last year, it was announced that 30 Days of Night would be sequelized. This was on top
of the FEARNet spin-off series, and all of that attention seems a little much, doesn't it? I mean, the film was
profitable but not exactly clamored for when it was released in 2007.

But writer Steve Niles told MTV's Splash Page that the sequel is still going forward, albeit going straight to DVD.
“The script is in. I’ve been working on it with a buddy of mine, Ben Ketai, who directed the last round of the
online webisodes.”
As for why it's not coming soon to a theater near you, Niles said, “We didn’t hit that magic $100 million, but I
had a long talk with [producer Sam Raimi]. He called me and just said, ‘Don’t be too quick to judge this direct-to
-DVD market, especially with the sci-fi market.’”
There are apparently plans to do all the comics as DVD titles, but that would have to be determined by the health
of the sequel.
This time around, it'll be a revenge flick based on the Dark Days portion of the 30 Days of Night
story. Stella Olemaun (portrayed by Melissa George in the first movie) goes to Los Angeles from Barrow, Alaska to
draw out the vampire population intentionally, in hopes of avenging her husband's death.
Raimi's Ghost House Productions has released sequels to The Messengers and Boogeyman to DVD, which
Niles says makes the option of heading directly to the home video market more attractive.
