'Avatar' Updates from James Cameron
Saturday, April 25, 2009 at 2:12AM
Jim Dorey, my favorite source for 3-D news, has some great Avatar updates at MarketSaw.
First, there's an interview between the site's Michael Stat and production designer James Clyne, which has all
sorts of valuable information on James Cameron's potentially revolutionary film.
And then there are the behind-the-scenes shots of Cameron working on Avatar, which you can see in the latest
Empire. And if you're wondering what the big deal is about Avatar outside of the fact that this is
Cameron's first theatrical film in a decade, the King of the World explains it this way:
"With the capture
technologies we developed, the actor can be any character they can imagine and the director can create any world,
any time and any space."
Oh, really? That's all?
So check out MarketSaw for more pics and copious amounts of details about Avatar. Cameron also relays a
great story about Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson visiting the set during the marathon shoot, saying, "I put the
camera in their hands and they basically became two kids - on the inside every filmmaker is really just a complete
geek."
"The amazing thing for me was just watching that seminal moment," he adds. "They were running around the stage,
working the camera, and that's the moment when they both kind of looked at each other in the eye and said, 'Let's
make Tintin."
And the rest, as they say, is history. Or will be soon enough.
