The 20th anniversary issue of Empire is flat-out loaded. It's got an update on just about everything. You name a big movie from 2009, and it's probably in there. And so it is with The Lovely Bones, the
Peter Jackson adaptation of the powerful and successful
Alice Sebold novel.

It hasn't been smooth sailing, which might be a surprise.
Mark Wahlberg was a last-second substitute for Ryan Gosling, for example. But now it's back on track, with Wahlberg,
Susan Sarandon,
Rachel Weisz, and
Saoirse Ronan from Atonement. In fact, it's
a Ronan fan site (via
Slashfilm) that's responsible for these scans from Empire.
It marks an obvious departure for Jackson, and The Lovely Bones will be in theaters on December 11th.

HI there, just to let you know, it is not an "obvious departure" for Jackson given he has tread very similar ground with Heavenly Creatures.
...which was 15 years ago. I'm just saying when you look at what he's been doing lately, this is not anything like them.
True that it is unlike Lord of the Rings and King Kong, but I agree that "obvious departure" is a poor choice of words. Especially to those of us who have been fans since Bad Taste. I am wondering why the brilliant Heavenly Creatures has not resurfaced yet. Kate Winslet even gave Mr. Jackson a shout out in her Oscar(TM) speech.
