Shia Joins Michael Douglas in 'Wall Street' Sequel

In a way, this is an ideal time for a sequel to Wall Street, the movie that epitomized
the greed of the 1980s. In a contemporary environment, bringing back Gordon Gekko could showcase another side of
things, and that's apparently the plan.

The Los Angeles Times reports that the on-again-off-again sequel is on again, with Oliver Stone back in the
director's chair, and with Michael Douglas slicking back his hair and throwing on the suspenders as one of the
great American villains.
Those two things were in play as the sequel had been developing over the past year or so, but there's a new version
of the script for Wall Street 2, and now it might go into production this summer, with Shia LaBeouf taking
over what would be the Charlie Sheen role.
At one point, the film was to follow Gekko after his release from prison, charting his road back to the top, but
now with real Wall Street bad guys in the crosshairs, the focus of the script has apparently shifted to Gekko being
firmly ensconsed in the wheelin' dealin' that's bankrupted the country.
But again, if you're going to hit this sequel, now's the right time, and taking it forward with Douglas and Stone
makes it a lot more viable.
