Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at 5:46PM 'What Goes Up' Poster and Trailer
OK, granted - Hilary Duff. But the other things around her in the movie formerly known as Safety Glass have piqued my
interest. That coming-of-age comedy is now called What Goes Up, and it reunites The Wackness stars
Josh Peck and
Olivia Thirlby, and throws in
Steve Coogan for good measure.

We've got the new poster and trailer for What Goes Up, which is the feature debut for writer-director
Jonathan Glatzer. The movie's been in the can for about 18 months, but will open in limited release here in a few
weeks. The trailer presents this as a pretty quirky movie, and maybe one that's not as funny as it should be. There
are no big laughs, but then again, it doesn't appear that it's really going for big laughs.
Independent films need something to set themselves apart because they don't have the massive marketing,
particularly as we roll into summer. And based on this batch of goodies, I'm not sure we're seeing what really
makes this one special unless you're really into the cast. But I've been wrong before. Three times, actually.
I do like the poster, though, on its own merits.

What Goes Up arrives in theaters on May 29th.

Excellent!! I will finally be able to watch the movie on May 29th, its looks great, a little indy flick! :) Some great actors too..
I've seen it!!! I live in Vancouver and know someone who works at Insight where they did the post (probably shouldn't mention any names!) It's really, truly great!!!! It's not laugh out loud funny, but as you said, it's not trying to be. The trailer is kind of dumb and the music doesn't represent the movie at all which has really good music. Hilary is the best I've ever seen her. I mean, she's really good. The rest of the cast is also amazing. Steve Coogan and Olivia especially. It's deep. It makes you think. I definitely laughed. And yes, I cried too. But it sticks with you. It really does. It's more about heroism and what they mean and somehow it keeps such a big idea down to earth and plays it out in very small - often funny - moments. I see lots of the indies. Loved Juno and the Cohen Brothers. This fits in fo sure.
