Sunday, April 5, 2009 at 12:14PM Viggo Mortensen Contemplating Retirement?
Could Viggo Mortensen be hanging it up? Just last week, director David
Cronenberg said he was working on a sequel to Eastern Promises and there are those
consistent hints that Viggo might factor into the Hobbit series of films, but the 50-year-old insists he's
pretty burned out.

On a recent press junket for Good, he told the Times of London, "In the
past week I've been from Los Angeles to Japan to Korea to Poland to here. It's ridiculous and it's not a healthy
way to be. But, as it happens, I'm taking measures to change that. No more movies."
And he doesn't sound like he's joking. "I haven't said yes to one in over a year. I've been in all these well-
received movies and it seems like I should be doing some more but there are other things I want to do. It's not the
right time."
Following the success of the Lord of the Rings movies, Mortensen said the offers that have kept him busy
started to really roll in, however, "they were often complete crap, all about product placement and marketing. I
don't need the money."
The only reason I would remotely take Viggo seriously is that, as he points out, he hasn't accepted a role in over
a year and he still feels like walking away. You hear that a lot more after a grueling shooting schedule, but he's
had quite a while to evaluate things.
Just so long as he doesn't try hip hop...
