Monday, April 6, 2009 at 1:07PM Long-Delayed 'Mandy Lane' In Theaters July 17th
Here's how long All the Boys Love Mandy Lane has been sitting on
the shelf: Director Jonathan Levine's follow-up, The Wackness, was in theaters nearly a year ago.

But Mandy Lane will finally (we think) get a U.S. theatrical run. Though the horror
flick debuted at SXSW in 2007 and star Amber Heard is on her way to bigger things, it hasn't
found a suitable release date in the past 24 months. Now, distributor in place, Mandy
Lane is slated for a July 17th opening in limited theaters.
Originally a Weinstein/Dimension product, it was spun off to Senator Entertainment in 2007, and
now that company has Mandy Lane on its revised 2009 release schedule. If you're looking
for a "why now", I'd suggest that Senator is hoping to bookend movies around Heard, a rising
star who will be seen next year opposite Johnny Depp in The Rum Diary. You probably
remember her as Seth Rogen's girlfriend in Pineapple Express, and Senator is also
handling the release of The Informers, which features pretty much all of the 22-year-old
Texan.
I suppose it's better that the film sees some kind of theatrical action rather than an unheralded DVD release. Don't expect great things at the box office; it's opening against Harry Potter, and I doubt Senator will throw it into a couple thousand theaters to make it competitive.
