Monday, April 6, 2009 at 5:43PM Platinum Dunes Confirms the New Freddy Krueger
On Friday, it was revealed that Jackie Earle Haley was in negotiations to play Freddy Krueger in the new Nightmare on Elm Street,
which for my money, is about as good as you could ever hope for. Now Platinum Dunes is confirming that Haley has
signed on to the project.

"It should come as no surprise then that Jackie Earle Haley is playing Freddy Krueger. He was the only person we
ever considered for the role," Fuller wrote. "We can't make all the fans happy, but those of you who are open to a
new version of the Nightmare story have to be as excited as we are."
And I have to believe that's right. I disagree with the specific range of the story (I vote prequel, this is
basically a tarted-up remake), but no matter what they're doing, if Platinum Dunes is moving forward, Haley is the
best choice for the potential franchise.
"Come on people, an Academy Award Nominated actor is playing Krueger," Fuller added. "This was no small
accomplishment, but everyone involved wanted it to happen. He is a huge fan of horror, and well aware of the
rightful place Freddy Krueger holds in the horror pantheon."
"Quite simply, he knows what he has to do, and is very up to the task."

Hopefully with an actor this good they will give Freddie the starring role, half-prequel and half-remake would be pretty cool. I want to see the backstory in full and him tear shit up in dreams.
