Rumor Patrol: That 'Buffy' Movie Ain't Happening

I don't doubt that discussions have taken place for this over the years and I don't doubt that she'd be involved, especially given how little activity she's shown lately, but I don't buy the particulars of a new rumor claiming Sarah Michelle Gellar is bucking for a Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie. "There is an idea for a script and to pick the story up with Buffy older and maybe even a mother," a "source" tells Showbiz Spy. I must say the idea of making Buffy a mother is a new twist, and I'm not sure the story needs that. We're speaking hypothetically, of course, because this is a phantom story. One issue for Buffy might be that, even though it was a TV hit in its most recent incarnation, the show has been off the air over five years, and the more recent Veronica Mars is having trouble getting off the ground, even though we know there's a script for that. Another issues is Joss Whedon said it won't happen. Two months ago.

"There’s not going to be [a movie]. That’s the update. Nobody has ever broached the subject from the studio side. I think everybody is busy working. I mean, I think it probably won’t happen. That’s my guess. The landscape changes constantly, but until someone who has millions and billions of dollars asks me that question, the answer is pretty much the same.”

That's about all the confirmation I need.

It doesn't need a movie. The Tv show ended good and the current comic books are keeping the series going well enough. Besides we need a sequel to Firefly more then a Buffy movie. That series is at least setup for it. If only Serenity had made money.
