Viggo's 'The Road' Finally Gets a New Release Date
Thursday, April 30, 2009 at 8:01PM
Last fall, movie fans were getting ready for the film adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's The
Road. It had some Oscar buzz and it had Viggo Mortensen in a post-apocalyptic journey with a father and son.
The novel won the Pulitzer, and the movie looked like it would be a faithful inerpretation.

But The Weinstein Company pulled it from the 2008 release schedule so it could focus on The Reader. That
turned out to be a smart move, with a slew of Oscar nominations and a Best Actress win for Kate Winslet. There was no determination on when we'd see The Road for months, but now we have our answer.
Worst Previews reports that The Road will be in theaters on October 16th, which puts it about 11 months away from the original release date. Hopefully this one sticks. It's still in Oscar season, which is a good sign, but the tone of the film might be too dark for a serious run at Best Picture. It would be great if Viggo can get some massive attention for this; he's been underrated for so long.

I've been looking forward to the release of this film for a long time. I can't believe we have to wait until October! So disappointing.
