'Wolverine' Rakes in $5 Million from Midnight Shows

It doesn't translate to general audiences all the time, so when you read that X-Men Origins: Wolverine made nearly $5 million in midnight shows, please remember that those aren't people looking for anything to do. Those are X-Men fans.

Still, it will help Wolverine get out of the gates pretty well if a comparison can be drawn to last year's Iron Man. That Marvel superhero movie had more showings (it opened at 8pm Thursday) and made roughly $5 million as well, on its way to $102 million overall in its first weekend.

I'd be very surprised if Wolverine makes it to $100 million, because the reviews aren't as strong for this as they were for Iron Man, but even if it gently exceeds what Fox is hoping for this weekend, it should make at least $80 million. Project that out over the life of the movie at the box office, and you're looking at $225 - $240 million, maybe a little more.
