Monday, May 11, 2009 at 4:34PM Anchor Bay is Bringing Timberlake Back
I'll stop short of fawning over Justin Timberlake's recent gig as the host of
Saturday Night Live. It was certainly good, but I saw someone say that it elevated him to one of
the great all-time hosts. Seriously?

Anyway, what is true is that the guy's a natural performer with good comedic instincts and loads of charm.
That, more than the singing, is what separates him from other boy band refugees. His film work has not
been terribly convincing, and I think it's because he's trying to not be Justin Timberlake. He's better on
SNL than he's ever been in a movie. Perhaps he'll make that adjustment sooner than later.
In the meantime, his indie drama The Open Road has been picked up by Anchor Bay, which, according
to Variety, will release the film in theaters this summer. If you know Anchor Bay, it's from the company's home video operation. A new theatrical division was announced last October, and the first film under that banner was While She Was Out, which barely registered last December.
I know a new Anchor Bay movie, Not Forgotten with Paz Vega, will be released in a few cities this weekend, but the company is not looking to put something in 3,000 theaters anytime soon.
Timberlake's Open Road also stars Jeff Bridges, Kate Mara, Harry Dean Stanton, Lyle Lovett, and Mary Steenburgen, and concerns "a son faced with the challenge of fulfilling his mother's dying wish to bring his estranged father to the hospital, with the father and son then obliged to re-examine their past."
