'Toy Story' Movies to Premiere in 3-D in Venice

If travel plans take you to Venice this September, you might want to buy a couple of tickets to the Venice Film Festival, which, in addition to being a great source for upcoming domestic and lesser-known foreign movies, will host the world premiere of Toy Story and Toy Story 2 in 3-D. I know, right? Pretty damn cool.

Organizers of the event have made it a can't-miss engagement, with Variety reporting that the two films will bookend the festival's Golden Lion award ceremony at the Palazzo del Cinema at Venice Lido.
In a statement, Venice Film Festival organizers said, "[For the first time] in the history of the Venice Film Festival, the award will honor not only the achievement of a single filmmaker but also the contribution of the directors of a visionary studio."
Director John Lasseter will also receive a lifetime achievement award, well-deserved for his role in revolutionizing film animation. He'll be accompanied at the event by Pixar's other mega-talented filmmakers, Brad Bird, Pete Docter, Lee Unkrich, and Andrew Stanton.
I can't wait to see these two films in 3-D, although I certainly won't be in Italy for the premiere. Fortunately, we'll only have to wait about a month longer to see them here in the states; Disney and Pixar will release both films on October 2nd.
