Sunday, May 10, 2009 at 5:23PM 'Wolverine' Gets Post-Swine Flu Mexican Debut
Take that, Swine Flu! Fox will release X-Men Origins: Wolverine in Mexico on
May 26th, after holding back the opening date last week over fears of a massive outbreak of the biggest
health scam since the Atkins diet.

Because of the Swine Flu scare, though, theaters in Mexico were closed for five days, along with schools and other businesses. They reopened for business on Thursday. Fox therefore missed an opportunity to hit a major theatrical market as part of its global release date of May 1st. In all, Wolverine has made close to $250 million around the world in ten days. It's almost to the point where Wolverine can start counting money instead of paying for itself, and it will be interesting to see how the delayed released date in Mexico will contribute to the cause.
The premiere for the film will be held at the National Auditorium, which Hugh Jackman says (via his Twitter page) will "provide a moment of fun escapism and a treat for some of the loyal fans of the comic."
In related news, Fox plans to open Night at the Museum in Mexico on June 12th. That's more related to giving Wolverine some room more than it is the outbreak.
