Writer Talks Up That 'xXx' Threequel We Don't Want

It wouldn't be near the top of the list of the worst sequels ever, but xXx: State of the Union was certainly bad. Pointless, erratic, loud, and unforgivably stupid, it signaled the end of the xXx franchise, which started with a big box office bang. That is, it was the end of the franchise until now.

Afew months ago, a new xXx movie was announced, with Vin Diesel attached to star. I do find it humorous that Diesel had three potential franchises on his hands on chose to focus on the Riddick movies. Now he's back with all three.

Collider talked screenwriter Michael Ferris about xXx: The Return of Xander Cage, who brought up Rob Cohen's name without a hint of embarrassment:

“We’re actually delivering a draft next week. So far the studio seems very enthusiastic about it. Rob Cohen is really excited. I think Vin Diesel is tentatively committed pending script approval. With any luck at all, we’ll get a green light in the immediate future and have something by next year."

I know what you're thinking: They need a script? Yeah, apparently they do. And apparently Sony likes what it sees so far. The Pacifier would be a fool to turn it down, especially because with his involvement, the studio would capitalize on the Fast & Furious success, which would line his pockets pretty well. Plus, if history teaches us anything, it's that the script doesn't have to be that good to catch his interest.
