'Expendables' Posters and Banner from Cannes

Cannes is a showcase for all sorts of things: Pomposity, glitz, indie flare, mainstream muscle, movies that wanna, movies that will, and more publicity than a Lindsay Lohan bar fight. One film generating publicity at Cannes while not having an official presence there is Sylvester Stallone's The Expendables. Stallone and his dirty dozen, which consists of Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, Mickey Rourke, Eric Roberts, and Brittany Murphy, among others, are currently filming in South America. It's a big mercenary movie in the classic 70s and 80s tradition. OK, maybe "classic" is too strong a word. Posters and banners for The Expendables have been catching eyes on the French Riviera this week. You can see the official logo above, and here are photos of the first three character posters. They're not high quality, but you get the idea: Stallone's latest will be out next April, and I'm going to go out on a limb here and say there might be an explosion or two and possibly - not promising anything - gunfire. Sly wrote the script, and is directing The Expendables as well, and though Rambo didn't put up the kind of box office most people involved would have wanted, this might have more potential just based on the curiosity factor.
