Thursday, May 14, 2009 at 1:21PM First Trailer for 'The Road' with Viggo Mortensen
We just featured an article from Esquire calling The Road the most important film of 2009. That's high praise, certainly, and it's not coming out of nowhere: Cormac McCarthy's book won a Pulitzer, and who doesn't like Viggo Mortensen, an actor who has shown a lot of growth in just the past four or five years?

Now we've got the very first trailer for The Road, directed by John Hillcoat. I think they might be trying to sell this post-apocalyptic journey as an action flick just a little too much. But it does give us a glimpse of the ravaged landscape and the struggle of the remaining humans to survive day to day.
The Road could be one of the year's best films, based on everything we know about it at this point. We'll find out how close it comes to the expectations on October 16th.

Having read the book (which is one of the best books I've ever read) I'm a little worried about the trailer. It wasn't a very long book (with very little action scenes) and it looks like they just showed you the key parts in the book. They are also making it look like Charlize Theron's character is a big part when she is hardly mentioned at all. I'm excited and hesitant about the movie, I just hope people will try to read the book before seeing the movie. Oh I'd also like to add that casting Viggo Mortensen in the role as "the man" is brilliant and I can not think of anyone else fitting that role.
Wow that's not what I was expecting at all....
wow i don't know what to make of the trailer. i love the book (best book i have ever read ). but there were some things that looked and sounded kinda cheesy ( what's up with the fuckin stock archive yelling sound effect?) It also seems as though they might try and make a pre story explanation of why the earth has gone to shit but fuck i hope not thats part of why the book was so good. all and all ill be there opening day.
