Thursday, May 14, 2009 at 4:07AM Sam Raimi Expecting 'Spidey 4' Script Within Weeks
Sam Raimi has Drag Me to Hell on the way in a couple of weeks, a return to lower budget horror movies after a lengthy absence. Since then, of course, he's become a more mainstream filmmaker, with three gazillion dollar Spider-Man movies to his credit.

So while talking about Drag Me to Hell, the inevitable recently happened and a reporter asked him about Spider-Man 4, which he and Tobey Maguire are locked in for already, and Kirsten Dunst...well, who cares? But JoBlo was on the scene, and Raimi says Spidey Quatro is progressing quite nicely.
"I've just started working on the next installment of the Spider-Man series," Raimi says." David Lindsay-Abaire is in New York right now writing the screenplay and I am going to receive a draft of it in about three weeks I think."
Drafts on a movie this size don't mean a whole lot. They'll be revising and revising even when shooting commences, which should be early next year at the latest; the film is scheduled for a May 2011 debut.
Raimi has idly mentioned villains - plural - for the fourth movie. It's nothing concrete, but even still, shouldn't he have learned his lesson from Spider-Man 3? Give us one main villain and a possible sub-plot villain who can't detract from the main focus of the story. I mean, if he's really listening to the audience, it should be a one-villain show. Maybe we'll know more after that next draft comes in.
