Thursday, May 14, 2009 at 8:07AM Watch the Amazing New Trailer for the Musical 'Nine'
The musical may not be "back," as Oscar host Hugh Jackman claimed, but it's certainly not dead anymore. Moulin Rouge! and the Oscar-winning Chicago helped usher in a new era for the musical, and it's been quite profitable in the past two years with Hairspray and Mamma Mia. But it could be that they've all been building to this.

Nine is not to be confused with the animated 9 or the sci-fi District 9, both of which we'll also see in the next several months. This is the film adaptation of the Tony-winning musical (and 20 years later, the Tony-winning revival) directed by Rob Marshall, who helped Chicago win Best Picture. Maybe you want more out of a movie cast, and maybe you're just like Prince's mother; she's never satisfied: Daniel Day-Lewis, Judi Dench, Penelope Cruz, Sophia Loren, Nicole Kidman, and Marion Cotillard have all won Academy Awards, and for good measure, we also get Kate Hudson and Fergie.
The play itself is an adaptation of Fellini's classic 8 1/2, and whether or not you like Fellini, you can't really be much of a student of film without seeing a couple of his movies. So make a point of that if you haven't.
Here's a frenetic and wonderfully colorful trailer for Nine, which you can expect to be on the short list for Best Picture when the awards season starts:

Nine hits theaters on November 25th. With a director who's already proven in this genre, with incredible source material and a tremendous adaptation already built upon it, and with a cast that's as good as you could realistically hope for, the sky is the limit for this. Unless there's a major, wholly unpredictable snafu, expect Nine to be very, very good.

let me say it before i say anything else, 8 1/2 is my favorite ilm of all time, pure and simple. Daniel day Lewis looks brilliant, but besides that this just looks like the same thing with great actors and random inputs of song, This will be good, but people should see 8 1/2
hope to see this before it's released in the theatres......it looks Fabulous and I love Judi Dench smokey/sexy voice.
