Jim Carrey as Scrooge in 'A Christmas Carol' Poster

Following the same route of annual holiday releases of The Polar Express would be a great plan for Robert Zemeckis' A Christmas Carol. Obviously, the initial upside for the new film is a bit highter because the story is so much more familiar (almost anyone alive in western civilization has heard of it) and the motion capture technology Zemeckis has worked so hard to perfect isn't new anymore.

I don't think the technology is quite where Zemeckis wants it yet, although he's doing the right thing with it here. Beowulf was probably jumping the gun a little bit for a practical usage of this computer-animated actor business, but A Christmas Carol seems like it's tailor made for this approach.

Zemeckis has a big cast, including Jim Carrey as Scrooge and all the ghosts, plus Gary Oldman, Robin Wright Penn, and Colin Firth. Here's the first official poster for A Christmas Carol, which opens on November 6th:
