Jason Statham to Become 'The Killer Elite'

The roles keeping coming Jason Statham's way; the Transporter has lined up his next action flick, The Killer Elite.

Variety says the film will be based on real events, which were the subject of Ranulph Fiennes' book The Feathermen. More on that guy in a second.

Statham will play a former Navy Seal who comes out of retirement in order to save an old friend. Not much of a logline, I'll grant you, but you don't expect the moral complexities of Macbeth for a Statham movie.

Now, this Ranulph Fiennes character. You guessed correctly that he is related to Ralph and Joseph Fiennes (third cousin), but his life story should be a movie. For instance: First guy to walk across Antarctica. First guy to lead expeditions to both the North and South Pole, which was part of the same three-year transglobal adventure. Ran seven marathons in seven days...on seven continents...at the age of 60...four months after having a double bypass.

But wait, there's more: Having developed frost bite during a solo excursion to the North Pole, Fiennes defied doctors orders to let the tissue regrow normally and amputated parts of his own fingers...with tools in his shed. And on an attempt to be the oldest Briton to climb Mt. Everest, the 64-year-old Fiennes abandoned his quest after showing signs of vertigo and exhaustion. Could be because he was undergoing treatment for colon cancer at the time.

Suddenly, Jason Statham doesn't seem anything close to a bad-ass, does he?

Oh, did I mention that Fiennes also led the expedition that discovered the lost city of Ubar, Oman? Anyone else thinking this Ranulph Fiennes guy is really Dos Equiis' Most Interesting Man in the World.

Which is why Guy Ritchie's Revolver was so refreshing.

Ah, well...

Ugh, is this a remake of the lousy Peckinpah movie with Jimmy Caan and Robert Duval?

I hated Revolver. Incredibly messy, that.

I love Jason and hope he does better in this than TP2 & 3. There's another instant where they should have stopped at one
