Despite mostly discouraging reviews and post-opening weekend box office to match, X-Men Origins: Wolverine will spawn at least two sequels, one for the title character played by Hugh Jackman and one focusing on Deadpool, which will star Ryan Reynolds. Also making his return will be Taylor Kitsch who had apparently in the dark that a Wolverine sequel was already announced.

"I hadn't heard that was going to happen. You have my brain going now about what I'd love to do with Gambit," he told Rotten Tomatoes at Cannes. "I'm just excited to go deeper into Gambit. It's a flattering thing when people say that the only shitty part about the character is we didn't see enough of him."
Clearly, Kitsch didn't see enough of him, either:

"He has so many more colors to explore. I want to go dark with that cat. There are so many things I want people to see of him and he really is his own deal. In 'Wolverine' he was very much moving the story along. If I can have some moments where you go deeper into Gambit's back-story and why he was the way he was at that poker table - that's a fun thing to explore."I like Gambit in the comics, but I don't think we saw enough of him in Wolverine to justify a standalone movie at this point. I don't even believe Deadpool is a great idea based on what we've seen to this point. See, that's the problem with cluttering a movie with too many characters. So just adding him on to the next Wolverine movie is probably a smarter approach right now than a Gambit spin-off.

WHOAH, I hope so, I really REALLY want to see more gambit, this movie was a little tease, he was wonderful in the little screen time they gave him
a Gambit movie sounds great, but I hope they change the actor cause I didn't think Taylor Kitsch did a good job at all. I didn't mind since he played a very small part but if he gets a spin-off they should get the right actor for the job. I'm thinking Josh Holloway could be great.
